Aira ASL Assistance

Navigate CDLE appointments more easily with Aira ASL

American Sign Language is the third-most spoken language in the United States. Everyone deserves equal access to essential state services, and as we work toward a Colorado for All, the State of Colorado is partnering with Aira ASL on a pilot program to bridge communication between the Deaf community and the hearing. The Aira ASL app offers trained interpreters to remove barriers when navigating Colorado Department of Labor & Employment buildings and digital services for free for up to 30 minutes per session.

How it works

Aira ASL is a digital tool to help deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals access in-person services instantly by connecting with a professional ASL interpreter via the free app available in the Apple or Google Play stores. Users simply download the app, tap a button, and are connected to a professional human ASL interpreter who facilitates communication using the caller’s phone camera and audio. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Through the Aira ASL app, your smartphone camera streams secure, live video to a professionally trained agent who safely and securely can facilitate communication.

There is no cost to anyone using Aira ASL at a CDLE location.  Calls are limited to 30 minutes, but callbacks are allowed.

Please ensure:

  • The volume is on.
  • The camera is steady and unobstructed.

Which languages are supported?

Aira ASL provides interpretation between spoken English users and American Sign Language users.

What can interpreters see?

Aira ASL agents are humans, trained and certified by Aira to provide immediate information, safely and securely. They see only what your phone’s camera shows. You control the view.
