When it comes to safeguarding state systems and data, OITers like Security Risk & Compliance Analyst Sheena Leal take great pride in helping our organization ensure an accessible, trustworthy and resilient technology experience for Colorado.
“My role is to prevent major data breaches and security incidents,” Sheena says. “I often think of how each Coloradan entrusts us with their information, and it is our duty to ensure that their information is handled with care, prioritizing both confidentiality and integrity.”
Sheena’s also no stranger to challenging the status quo to identify new and better ways of doing things. Recognized for embodying the OIT Core Value of innovation, she was instrumental in developing an effective and streamlined workflow for processing security configuration exception requests that ultimately enhanced the efficiency and transparency of this critical security function.
“Today, we have a fully functioning Security Configurations Exception Program that relies solely on ServiceHub for requests and tracking,” says Kwame Owusu, Security Risk & Compliance Manager. “This is a true champion of using innovation to make complex tasks look simple and effective.”
Sheena says this recognition validates the significance of her work. Knowing that her skills and perspectives are appreciated motivates her to continue to contribute innovative ideas, build up with her team and pursue excellence in all of her endeavors.
“The dynamic nature of the security risk management team and the organization's commitment to continuous improvement create an environment where I feel both supported and empowered to make a meaningful impact,” Sheena says.
