DENVER - Today, the Colorado Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) announced the appointment of Sarah Tuneberg as the new Colorado Digital Service (CDS) Director. CDS was created within OIT to assist in solving pressing technology needs for state agencies through a community-centered and outcomes-based approach that helps Coloradans thrive. As Director, Tuneberg will lead a cross-functional technology consultancy with a mission to mature the state’s approach to delivering high-quality products and services by focusing on people, process and technology.

“Colorado is focused on leading the way in innovation and technology to deliver better services for Coloradans, and we are thrilled to welcome Sarah into this exciting role. Her leadership, expertise, and experience will help serve Coloradans and lead to new solutions to address our technology needs,” said Governor Jared Polis.

Tunberg will report jointly to Governor’s Office Director of Operations & Cabinet Affairs Jesse Marks and state Chief Information Officer and OIT Executive Director David Edinger. In her role, she will lead the execution of the Colorado Digital Government Strategic Plan and work with OIT teams and state agencies to implement constituent digital identity and other technology solutions that make it easier for Coloradans to access and engage with state government services.

“In our search for a new Colorado Digital Service leader, we sought a collaborative, innovative and strategic leader, and Sarah Tuneberg is just that,” said Chief Information Officer and OIT Executive Director David Edinger. “As we work to make more state government services available digitally, Sarah will lead an amazing team delivering human-centered digital services in Colorado.”

As an entrepreneurial technology leader, Tuneberg has extensive experience in the private sector, having built and scaled three startups as CEO and CTO. She also has experience in public health and emergency management, serving as the State of Colorado Innovation Response Team Director and Senior Advisor COVID-19 Testing, Containment & Technology, among other roles. Under her leadership, Colorado scaled mass testing from 50 to more than 50,000 samples per day and offered services to help Coloradans stay safe and healthy at home.

“I’m honored to be returning to the state and thrilled to be joining the exceptional Colorado Digital Service team,” said Tuneberg. “I look forward to working in partnership with the Governor's Office, OIT colleagues, agency partners, and the larger civic technology community to deliver user-centric digital services that make the lives of all Coloradans easier.”

Tuneberg holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Georgia, a Master of Public Health (MPH) from Tulane University and a degree in Social Entrepreneurship from INSEAD.
